Why was Abiy Ahmed awarded a Nobel Peace Prize?
Within months of coming into power, PM Abiy Ahmed signed a peace deal with neighboring nation Eritrea. For nearly two decades, Ethiopia and Eritrea had been hostile towards each other under the Meles administration. After Abiy Ahmed became prime minister, the changing nature of the East African geopolitics led the two nations to become allies.
